We’re not big on travels, but my husband and I recently decided to start a travel fund. Since we don’t have a kid yet, we realized that we should make the most of our time together.
Most of us think that it’s hard to start saving and that we should earn a huge amount of money before we do. But what I found out was that it was simple to start. We didn’t even need a big pay check!
Don’t believe me?
Our first deposit for our travel fund is a mere Php3,529.42.
Our next is Php5,260.25.
The total of which is a humble Php8,789.67.
Not much, is it? Maybe. But that amount is solely consisted of unused coins. Yes, the coins that are laying around accumulating dust. And some from a coin bank.
The denomination? 10s, 5s, 1s, 0.25s, 0.10, 0.05s, and (yes!) 0.01s.
Our travel fund is less than Php30,000.00 at the moment. It’s not a huge amount, but hey, it’s a start. From that fund, we were able to buy our airline tickets going to Palawan. Yay! Plus, I get an exclusive Travel Insurance Coverage and I earned points (which can be converted to air miles) because I used my credit card when we booked our flight.
Saving is simple, yeah?
That’s why I encourage you to start your travel fund today with no excuses. Start with the unused coins you see around your house. Sooner, you’ll be thanking yourself that you did it.
If you don’t like to use your savings for travelling, then use it for a discretionary fund instead. Or you can use it for the initial deposit to your brokerage account (it’s only Php5,000.00!) where you can build your Whatever Money.
